At The Terrace Café
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen
Bovey Tracey, Devon
TQ13 9AF

A new Craft Club for youngsters starts from 20 January and will run every Tuesday at The Devon Guild of Craftsmen in Bovey Tracey. The after-school sessions are from 3.45 to 5.15pm. Parents can relax, shop and take a break while the kids (aged 5 to 11) have the the chance to work with an experienced tutor at a variety of creative projects. They will be supervised by professional tutor and artist Sara Roberts. The fun, interactive sessions will be held in The Terrace café at Riverside Mill which is also the home of the region’s largest contemporary craft centre, which puts on exhibtions as well as showing and selling a huge range of SouthWest made craft and design in its shop and gallery.
The new Kid’s Craft Club will take inspiration from work on show in the Guild gallery and each workshop will explore new materials and techniques with the children working towards regular displays of work and producing their own pieces to take home. The sessions will include making with felt, modelling with recycled material, collage and textiles.
Sarah James, co-Director of the Guild, herself a local mum, came up with the idea:
‘I think parents are crying out for this sort of club. It will be great to have children making crafts in an inspirational setting. My kids are definitely coming!’
The different materials and activities at the Craft Club will help children’s natural talents grow, and encourage them to enjoy all aspects of arts and craft. The Guild has always supported local schools through its educational charity ‘Big Hand Little Hand’. Through its Members, it helps bring contemporary craft into schools and promote new design skills as well as show traditional crafts.
Places are limited, so if you want your child to come along and have a break yourself after school, please sign up as soon as possible. The Craft Club runs upstairs in The Terrace every Tuesday during term time from 3.45pm to 5.15 pm and a five-week course costs £25.
