Our Structure

The Devon Strategic Partnership

The partnership linkages between the Devon Strategic Partnership and the DRN are shown on our organisational diagram.

A member of the DRN Policy Steering group officially represents the DRN on the Devon Strategic Partnership, however several members of the DRN Steering group are also members of the DSP.  In addition, the DRN is specified within the Devon Community Strategy as responsible for taking forward a number of actions.

The Devon Rural Network

The Devon Rural Network has a Policy Steering Group (PSG) consisting of key representatives across rural Devon. The members are drawn from the environmental, social/community and economic sectors keeping a balance between statutory agencies, private sector and voluntary bodies, and as far possible between the natural areas of Devon.  The PSG meet approximately bi-monthly and their role is to guide the work of the DRN and provide a collective voice for consultation responses through the Consultation Response Action Group.

Professor Michael Winter OBE is the President of the Devon Rural Network. Within his role at the University of Exeter and as Chairman of the South West Rural Affairs Forum, Prof Michael Winter works as an advocate for the Network and chairs occasional meetings and events.

Rev. Philip Wagstaff (Churches Together in Devon) is the Chairman of the Policy Steering Group and of the Devon Rural Network. The Chairman has the power of veto over all consultation and policy responses.

The Network also has a Management Advisory Group (MAG) designed to support the PSG between its meetings, to work on the detail of action plans, develop ideas to promote DRN and establish its identity. It provides support for the Co-ordinator of DRN with the development of ideas, solutions and recommendations and agrees the best use of resources at the DRN’s disposal to facilitate the work of the Network. The MAG deals with staff matters within the DRN’s remit and maintains a memorandum of understanding with Devon County Council and where necessary with other appropriate bodies.

Devon County Council acts as the Accountable Body for the Devon Rural Network, providing office space for the DRN and employing the DRN Staff.

The DRN Action Groups

The DRN has a number of sector-specific Action Groups.  These are designed to act as forums for discussion and network around specific issues in order to inform and co-ordinate implementation of the Devon Rural Strategy. The organigram shows how these Action Groups link in with the DRN, the Devon Rural Strategy and other funding bodies. All of these groups are linked together through the DRN staff and DRN sub groups have at least one steering group member on them.

Further information on our Action Groups can be found under the "our work" section of this website.
